Relationships and Health Education (RHE)
At Middlewich Primary School, our Relationships and Health Education (RHE) curriculum will focus on teaching the fundamental blocks and characteristics of positive relationships, with particular reference to friendships, family relationships and relationships with other children and adults. We want children to show respect for themselves and others and recognise when they are not being treated in this way both in the real and online world. We want all pupils to feel valued and understand the positive contributions they can make within their families, friendship groups and wider society.
Our teaching will also focus on the characteristics of good physical health and mental well-being whilst developing pupils’ understanding that the two are interlinked. We want children to understand the positive benefits of good diet, daily exercise and sufficient sleep, as well as the normal range of emotions all people feel and what to do if they are worried about how they are feeling.
The RHE curriculum will also support children’s understanding of the changing adolescent body and the changes to the body during puberty. Pupils in years 5 and 6 will also learn about how a baby is conceived and born as part of their science work on lifecycles of animals and reproduction in plants and animals.
Please see the documents below for further information about how we teach RHE at Middlewich Primary School.
